In anticipation of their upcoming fight happening in Las Vegas on July 20, 30-year-old American boxer Keith Thurman declared to the media during a recent press conference last Wednesday, May 22 that he will “crucify” the Filipino eight-time champion as they battle it out for the World Boxing Association (WBA) title.

Thurman elaborated that he will make sure that their face-off will be “Pacquiao’s last fight,” declaring, “I’m destroying the legend of Manny Pacquiao. His legacy ends on July 20. He’s had a wonderful career and been an inspiration. We all love him and respect him.” He added, “This is a big fight as far as the stage. But it’s a big fight against a little guy. I’ve dismantled veterans in the past, and throughout my career.

The undefeated boxer continued to explain, “[Pacquiao’s] never fought a fighter like me with the lateral movement, speed, power. He’s never fought anyone this young, strong, and hungry and I’m coming for him.

In response, the Filipino boxer who is taking a break from politics shared, “All I can say is that most of my opponents say things before a fight. That’s what I hear from them – ‘I’m easy to beat’. But when we get into the ring it changes. We’ll see who’s young in the ring on July 20,” referring to his upcoming opponent being 10 years younger.

Pacquiao concluded, “I don’t like trash-talking before a fight. I’m going to let my fists do the talking.”

Thurman currently holds a 29-0 win-loss record with 22 knockouts, most recently winning by decision over Josesito Lopez last January 26 after 12 rounds. Pacquiao, on the other hand, is also coming off of a win against Adrien Broner who he faced last January 19.

To prepare for battle, Pacquiao is splitting training between the Philippines and Los Angeles, enjoying the return of his original coach during his professional years, Freddie Roach.
