Amidst the irregular provision of water to thousands of homes in Metro Manila, Grab Philippines launched a new option on their phone application last Wednesday, March 27 called “Grab Igib,” which offers water delivery to various barangays in Marikina.

According to their website, the water is free of charge for users who avail, but those that want to use the service must pay P100 for the container. In addition, Grab Philippines’ country manager Brian Cu shared that the water is stored in five-gallon drinking water containers, but it is not safe for consumption. Only one container is allowed per booking. For those that want to try it out, all they have to do is book a regular car, entering “Marikina Grab Igib Water Hub” as the pickup point and their homes as drop-off.

Grab Igib is available from March 27 to 29 from 4 pm to 9 pm and as of writing, only those living in Barangays Escopa III, Escopa IV, Industrial Valley, Jesus de La Peña, Tañong, Santo Niño, Concepcion Dos, Nangka, Parang, and Marikina Heights can avail.

The water shortcomings have been affecting Metro Manila’s east zone since earlier this month. Last Wednesday, March 27, Ayala Corporation Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala took responsibility for the water crisis due to Manila Water Co., Inc, saying in a statement co-signed by his brother Manila Water chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala, “These past weeks have been difficult for many of us with the current water shortage situation. A multitude of factors resulted in this lack of supply, and we take responsibility for our own shortcomings in the company. We recognize and understand the difficulties that all our customers are going through.” As a short term solution, a one-time bill waiver program will be included in customers’ April water bill from the previous month.
