Pinoy singer Jej Vinson moves to next round in ‘The Voice US’
The 22-year-old Filipino singer based in Los Angeles, Jej Vinson, jumped to the next round of The Voice US, after beating his fellow Kelly Clarkson teammate.
Jej won over Beth Griffith-Manley during the show’s Battles where the two performed their moving rendition of Labrinth’s “Jealous.”
“Beth and Jej, both of you I wanted on my team so you both were incredible today,” said coach John Legend, adding that the two sang the song in a tone that is “really interesting and cool.”
“Both of your voices don’t sound like how I’ve heard the song before, but you both really sounded great doing it,” he continued.
Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, meanwhile, told the contestants that their performance sang in unison was, perhaps, the “best” he has ever heard.
“It was perfect. It was amazing how your voices melded together,” he said.
Although he complimented the two singers, Adam still picked Jej over Beth, while Blake Shelton, found it “hard to call.”
Commenting on their rendition, their coach Kelly praised Jej and Beth who she described as “so incredibly talented.”
“That’s why not only the unison parts were so in sync, but what you all did in harmony, it is note-on-note on point,” she said.
Despite this, only one of them has to stay in Kelly’s team — and that was Jej. Explaining her reason for picking the Filipino singer, Kelly said he finds Jej’s range “incredible.”
Jej then thanked his coach for choosing and believing in him, assuring Kelly that he is “not gonna let [her] down.”
Although she is out from Kelly’s team, Beth’s journey in claiming the title did not end there as John immediately made a “steal” on Beth, making her part of his squad.
Jej, earlier this month, made all Season 16 judges turn their chairs when he sang his fresh take on Drake’s “Passionfruit” during the competition’s blind audition segment.
