St. Clare remains unbeaten as they edge out winless FamilyMart
Originally rivals at the National Athletics Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities, the two teams used their own strong suits to try to obtain the victory. However, the Titans were the ones that fell to 0-3 in their group.
Irven Palencia led the way for the saints with 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists to remain 4-0 in the Aspirants Group. Joshua Fontanilla added 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Ray Rubio chipped 11 points and six rebounds. Junjie Hallare focused on the defensive end of the game, producing only seven points, but 11 rebounds, while import Mohammed Pare scored six points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
For Family Mart, Joseph Kouaka was the only one who scored double digits, finishing the game with 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. However, Mark Gatdula provided 10 rebounds and almost had a double-double with nine points.
After the game ,St. Clare coach Jinino Manansala explained in Filipino that being undefeated is “just a bonus, but [they] don’t look at the record,” stating, “Our goal is to get into the top four and from there, we’re going to play even better. We don’t want to relax.” He also added, “First half, we were kind of soft, but what we wanted that we get the ball, then attack, the players did that which is why our game ended well.”
On the same day, the Blue Dragons Diliman College also defeated the SMDC National University, finishing the score at 82-70.
