The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers are still the current number one team in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 eliminations as they remain unbeaten; the defending champions staying consistent with a four-set win against National University (NU) last Wednesday, February 27 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The set scores ended 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, and 25-22 with May Luna leading the way at 14 points. Teammate Aduke Ogunsanya, on the other hand, got her career high with 13 points off eight attacks, three blocks, and two aces. For NU, Princess Robles and Ivy Lacsina performed, contributing 18 and 16 points respectively. Unfortunately, due to this loss, the Lady Bulldogs now stand 1-2.

Coach Ramil De Jesus of the Lady Spikers reported that he told his players to “respect NU” because the Norman Miguel-led squad showed “super solid movement” during their last win against University of the East (UE). He elaborated, “Their sets are very basic, but they know each other better, especially on floor defense. They know what the strength is of each player.” And despite the win of his team, Coach Ramil did not shy away from sharing how he expected more from his players, adding in Filipino, “I always tell my players that when you make a mistake, that’s on you. You can’t blame it on the opponent. Once you leave the service line, everything falls on you. If there was something wrong, we’re the ones responsible for it and not our opponents. That’s where I got frustrated.”

The next time the Lady Spikers have the opportunity to extend their winning streak and improve their performance is on Saturday, March 2, as they go head-to-head against the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The following day, the Lady Bulldogs will have a chance to redeem themselves as they face the Adamson Lady Falcons at the same venue.
