MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) will hold a program seeking to bolster awareness on the dangers of foreign object debris (FOD) on March 1.

“This is the second time that MIAA will spearhead the FOD Walk. We target airline and groundhandling employees as participants,” MIAA Public Affairs officer-in-charge Consuelo Bungag told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Sunday.

In the event which will be held at the ramp area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, Bungag said employees will go around the ramp to look for FOD and pick them up.

In aviation, FOD is any object or material that could cause damage to an aircraft.

This includes rocks, tools, trash, aircraft parts, broken pavements, as well as birds.

The FOD Walk is among the activities that MIAA has prepared for its 37th anniversary in March.

According to MIAA, this activity aims to keep the aircraft free from FOD, and increase the employees’ awareness about the dangers that FOD might bring to the passengers.

Meanwhile, another highlight of MIAA’s anniversary is the conduct of a pageant, dubbed as “Binibining MIAA”.

Through the pageant, MIAA aims to boost camaraderie and teamwork among employees, while also providing them with fun during the thanksgiving night.
