The Makati Super Crunch continue to make their way to the top with a 76-65 win over the Laguna Krah Heroes for the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) eliminations last Wednesday, February 20 at the Blue Eagle Gym, Ateneo in Quezon City.

The Super Crunch are currently behind the Bataan Risers in the league standings, with their 20 wins and four losses record, just one below the Coach Jojo Lastimosa-led squad. John Rey Villanueva received the Player of the Game title with a double-double at 22 points and 11 rebounds. Laguna, on the other hand, fell at 10-15 in the standings and are no longer in the running to enter the playoffs.

On the same day, the Quezon City Capitals performed at their home court, redeeming themselves from their last loss, this time triumphing over the Imus Bandera GLC-Trucking Equipment with a score ending 80-71. Jay Collado and Hesed Gabo both chipped a double-double performance. The big man produced 14 points and 11 rebounds, while the point guard chipped 14 points as well and 11 assists. It was Mon Mabayo, whoever, who was hailed Player of the Game as he provided the extra energy for his team, totalling 13 points and six rebounds.

The Black Mamba Energy Drink-sponsored squad just made it more difficult for the other teams in the North division of the league to overcome their sixth spot in the standings; Coach Vis Valencia telling the press after the game, “We really needed this win. Right now, we’re at number six and hopefully we can move farther.”

The Makati Super Crunch and the Quezon City Capitals are each other’s next opponents for their last few games of the elimination round, going head-to-head during the first week of March. Before the beginning of the playoffs, the league is also anticipating their first-ever All-Star Event on Saturday, March 2 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena.
