2019 SEA Games announce official sponsors for upcoming event
After the Senate announced cutting the budget of the country’s hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games by 33 percent from P7.5 billion, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) made other announcements about the still-expected success of the event by releasing the names of companies who will be sponsoring the 30th edition of the tournament.
The PHISGOC is composed of Chairperson former Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez, and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Ricky Vargas.
During the press conference that occurred last Wednesday, February 13 at the Kalayaan Hall at SM Aura, Cayetano emphasized the importance of the Philippines hosting the SEA games, stating, “We win as one. Together, we can make this the most viewed and best hosted SEA Games,” Ramirez telling the sponsors present, “More than just investing in this year’s SEA Games, you are investing in our country, our people, and the development of our athletes. Not only Filipino athletes but athletes of the Southeast Asian region.”
Among the businesses that have vowed to support the 30th SEA Games, which is the biggest yet with a total of 56 sports, is nation flag carrier Philippine Airlines, who will be transporting delegates from around the world to attend the 523 events in Subic, Clark, Tagaytay, and Metro Manila. French company GLC Events will be providing their integrated solutions and services in doing overlays of the 39 venues. Grand port, which is Thailand-based, is providing uniforms for the workforce, volunteers, and technical officials, while Japanese company Asics will be dressing the athletes with their flags around their chest. Sports equipment and game balls will be provided by Mikasa, Marathon, and Molten, while MediaPro Asia, which originates in Spain, will broadcast and provide official media rights of the matches in partnership with the PHISGOC.
This is the fourth time that the Philippines will host the sea games – 1981, 1991, and 2005, where Team Philippines won the championship.
