Louie Alas reports son Kevin’s surgery a success
Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters’ head coach Louie Alas has confirmed to the public that the surgery for the knee of his son Kevin, who plays for the NLEX Road Warriors, was a success.
Coach Louie first stated, “Kevin is in high spirits already. He just doesn’t want to eat,” then shared in Filipino, “Tuesday, he will be released. It’s okay. He said it still hurts a bit. Usually, that is the procedure, then, he can go out but last year, we experienced his surgery hurting after, for six hours, it really hurts without anesthesia.”
He added, “I’m already anticipating it, I told him to allow himself to stay in the hospital for one or two days so that he may get a pain reliever readily.” When talking about his son’s return to basketball, even as an audience member, Coach Louie reported, “[My son] said he still doesn’t want to. Maybe when he’s starting to go through therapy after two weeks or when he’s going through rehab. He said he doesn’t want to talk about basketball,” but concluded, “Yet, I think he still watched the game from the hospital,” referring to his son supporting the Phoenix Pulse as they defeated Rain or Shine during an overtime match last Sunday, February 10.
The 27-year-old guard tore his knee in the same spot he did last March 2018 which forced him to sit out for the rest of the season. Alas only played five games so far in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup, but is on indefinite leave after his injury returned last February 2 during a game against Meralco at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Kevin’s team currently has two wins and four losses in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup. During NLEX’s most recent game, the Road Warriors wore patches that said ‘Kevin strong’ in honor of their teammate.
His coach, Yeng Guiao, shared, “We are all saddened, we are all devastated by what happened. We are all praying for Kevin and we are supporting him all the way.”
