Fifth straight win for the GenSan Warriors after clutch 4th quarter against Parañaque
The General Santos (GenSan) Warriors are on a roll after clinching on to their fifth straight victory during the elimination round of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup, where they won 80-76 over the Parañaque Patriots at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
John Orbeta provided a double-double for his team with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Meylan Landicho added 16 points as well – three of those points being free throws that secured his team’s win during the last few seconds of the fourth quarter.
GenSan head coach Ramon Pido shared in a mix of English and Filipino, “We just want to maintain the energy level that we showed in our previous wins. If that level lowers, it’s going to be a big concern for us. We just have to stay consistent.” He also told Fox PH, “Anybody can beat anybody in this league. We were able to beat tough teams in the past few games, then we were tested by a lowly-ranked team. We cannot take any team for granted.”
This game brought up the Warriors win-loss record to 12-9, just half a game behind the Batangas City Tanduay Athletics, which stands third in their division.
On the same day, the rebranded Zamboanga Family Brand Sardines faced the Pasay Voyagers on their home court, where they dominated the host team 91-74 with new addition Harold Arboleda achieving his 16th double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Teammates Ivan Villanueva, Reed Juntilla, Robin Rono, and Allan Santos all contributed double digits as well with 15, 14, 11, and 10 points respectively.
GenSan will try to get their sixth straight win on February 23 facing Batangas City at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga on February 23, while Parañaque will wait until February 28 to face Bataan at the Bataan People’s Center. On February 14, Zamboanga will try to conquer Makati at the Pasig Sports Center, while Pasay’s next game is on the day before at their homecourt Cuneta Astrodome once again.
