MANILA — Filipinos trusting Americans the most can be be attributed to the country’s long association and relationship with the United States.

This was the reaction of Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana when ssought for comment on the Pulse Asia survey last December that overwhelmingly showed US as the most trusted country by Filipinos.

“That is understandable considering our long association and relationship with the USA. A lot of Filipinos studied there, a lot worked there and a lot have relatives there. Compared to other countries, USA have the most number of Filipino migrants,” he said in a message late Tuesday.

The US is also the only treaty ally of the Philippines.

Of the 1,800 Filipinos surveyed by Pulse Asia from Dec. 14 to 21, 84 percents said the Philippines should extend a fair amount of trust to the US.
