Motorists told to avoid roads to QC Circle due to ‘Unity Walk’

MANILA — Motorists are advised to avoid areas headed towards the Quezon City Memorial Circle (QCMC) and take alternative routes instead due to the Unity Walk, Inter-Faith Prayer Rally and Peace Covenant Signing for the 2019 Midterm Elections, to be held on Sunday.

In a statement Saturday, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, Chief Supt. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr., said the program will commence with a unity walk at about 4 a.m., to be attended by multi-sectorial groups, stakeholders, leaders, personnel and members of government agencies, religious groups, academe, students, civic and other non-government organizations.

All vehicles shall be re-directed to turn right at East Ave. southbound where they can take a left turn at Matalino St., then another left turn at Kalayaan Ave. towards Elliptical Road.

The road will be re-opened when all the participants are positioned inside the three inner lanes of the Elliptical Road.

A portion of the Elliptical Road along Philcoa will be closed to traffic during the march-off due to ongoing road works that occupies three lanes.

All vehicles shall be re-directed to turn right at Philcoa-Commonwealth and make a U-turn at the Tandang Sora Flyover towards Elliptical Road. Similarly, the road will be re-opened when the participants are already inside the QCMC.

The participants of the unity walk will assemble in front of the Quezon City Hall, particularly at the Sunken Garden along the open roads leading to Gate 8.

From the Sunken Garden, they will proceed to the QCMC for the inter-faith prayer rally and peace covenant signing to be held at the Liwasang Aurora, where invited guests and visitors, including Philippine National Police Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde; Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Benjamin R. Madrigal Jr.; and Commission on Elections Chairman, Sheriff Abas will deliver their messages.

All participants are advised to use the QC Hall Gate 7, along Kalayaan Ave. to access designated drop-off points at the open space in front of the Quezon City Public Library. They may proceed to the QC multi-level parking area or to the QCMC Max’s Restaurant parking area using Kalayaan Ave.

Meanwhile, the open space in front of the Quezon Memorial Shrine will be utilized for VIP parking.

The activity will end with the release of white doves as a symbol of peace and unity.
