Semirara Mining and Power president passes away at 68
The president and chief operating officer (COO) of Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) passed away on Thursday, December 27.
Victor Almeda Consunji died at the age of 68, Semirara told the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) in a disclosure on Friday, December 28.
SMPC is the country’s local source of coal requirements, supplying coal to power plants, cement plants, and other small boilers, according to its website.
“Under Mr. Consunji’s leadership he was able to turn around the coal mining operations allowing the corporation to reach new heights paving the way for SMPC to become the only integrated power company in the country,” the company said.
“The board of directors, management and employees of the DMCI group of companies deeply mourn his passing,” it added.
Consunji was also a director of DMCI Holdings, Incorporated, the parent conglomerate of SMPC. According to its website, DMCI Holdings, Inc. was incorporated on March 8, 1995 as a holding company to consolidate all construction business, construction component companies and related interests of the Consunji family.
Apart from this, the Filipino businessman was also the president and COO of SEM-Calaca Power Corporation and Southwest Luzon Power Generation Corporation.
Consunji graduated from the Ateneo de Davao University with a degree in Political Science.
