Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson was recently seen flying from Bangkok to Manila with newly crowned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray from the Philippines, which became an initial hint to the officially confirmed news that he will be helping fund the 68th Miss Universe competition in 2019 happening in Seoul.

The politician shared that after confirmation of the upcoming pageant occurring in South Korea in honor of North Korea joining for the first time, he immediately jumped on-board because he has numerous businesses in the country under his LCS Group of Companies. He elaborates that it’s “good exposure” because “the fighting North and South Korea will now be reunited.”

In Chavit’s words through a DZMM Teleradyo interview, “I’ve been helping out for a long time in Miss Universe, from when I sponsored, I’ve been helping them every year. That’s why it was in Bangkok, I was able to help,” adding, “Hopefully next year, I arranged it already in South Korea and North Korea will join. It’s good exposure for Catriona when she turns over the crown to the next Miss Universe.”

In the interview, Chavit also shares that Catriona will be making her return to her hometown sometime at the end of January or in February. He also mentions how his daughter, chief executive officer of Platinum Skies Aviation and Vice President of LCS Richelle Louise Singson-Michael, was also part of the 67th Miss Universe by being among the panel of judges.

Most recently, news also circulated that Chavit will be purchasing the Miss Universe Philippines franchise from Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. of Stella Marquez-Araneta, however, the businessman discloses that “the rumors are true, but [he] hasn’t accepted it yet, because [he] is still studying about it,” adding, “That just adds more work. Not like if you sponsor, you don’t have to work that much.” However, he clarifies that if the deal does push through with Madame Stella, then Binibining Pilipinas-Universe will be its individual pageant entitled ‘Miss Universe Philippines.’ It is also noteworthy that Chavit provided the main funds for the 65th Miss Universe pageant that was held in the Philippines.
