SMB enters PBA Govs’ Cup quarters with win over ROS

BINAN — San Miguel formalized its entry to the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals after edging Rain Or Shine, 109-97, at the Alonte Sports Arena on Saturday night.

The Beermen came alive in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Elasto Painters, 66-44 in the 24-minute span to overturn the latter’s hot start.

Kevin Murphy made 28 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one block for SMB, which also kept itself in the race for a twice-to-beat advantage given to the top four teams after the eliminations by moving up to 6-4.

Alex Cabagnot added 24 points, eight rebounds, and one assist off the bench.

Junemar Fajardo made two points, two rebounds, and one assist in 10 minutes of play in his return from a shin injury.

Maverick Ahanmisi tallied 26 markers, seven boards, six dimes, and one swipe for ROS, which was knocked out of contention after falling for the fourth straight game and to 2-8.
