Representing the Philippines, volleyball player turned beauty queen Michelle Gumabao finishes with a Top 15 placing and two special awards in Miss Globe 2018 held in Albania last Monday, October 23.

Michelle’s special awards consisted of Miss Dream Girl and Miss Social Media, which was participant-based and where Michelle rounded up 30% of the total votes.

Despite her placing, Michelle expresses her gratitude to her supporters on her Instagram account, stating, “I’ve learned a lot being here for two weeks! I’ve always known that in life there are wins and there are losses, but God knows what’s best for us. I trust in Him to take me further. I gave my best and I know it was good enough because I had the whole Philippines believing in me!” She accompanies the statement with a symbol of the Philippine flag saying, “Blue for Peace!”

Michelle also hinted about her upcoming endeavor – her return to the sports world. She shares in mix of English and Filipino, “At the end of the day, it is what it is. I’m coming home! Volleyball is the next fight.”

Michelle is most known for receiving Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in Season 75. She is currently playing for the Creamline Cool Smashers in the Premier Volleyball League.

The crowned Miss Globe 2018 was Yu Yizhou from China. Miss Australia Montana Farrah received first runner-up, while Turkey’s Perihan Koz placed third place and Italy won fourth Rosa Fariello. Rounding off the top five is Alba Bajrami from Albania. The last time the Philippines won the Miss Globe crown was in 2015, where Ann Lorraine Colis took home first place for the country.
