Manny Pacquiao announces next fight vs Adrien Broner in January 2019
Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has announced that his next match will be against former world champion Adrien Broner to take place January 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Manny Pacquiao, also known as “Pac-Man,” officially announced the news after he was introduced as the latest ambassador of International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS) Handa at Makati Shangri-La Hotel last Wednesday, October 17.
When asked by the press who his next opponent will be, he answered, “Broner, Adrien Broner. I think either January 12 or 19.” He also said that the date is “almost final,” adding, “I want it to take place on the 12th so I can get back to work on the 19th [in the Senate].”
As many are anticipating this match to pave the way for the highly-anticipated Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch, Pacman also recently signed with adviser Al Haymon. Haymon is known for working with renowned boxers like Errol Spence, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Adrien Broner, and Floyd Mayweather. The fight will be in collaboration with Pacquiao’s company, MP Promotions.
During the press conference for ISPS, Pacquiao did not shy away from sharing that he will discuss the details of his fight with Mayweather after their matches in the next few months. He said, “Floyd is going to fight on December 31 and I’m going to fight January 12. After that, we’ll know.”
As for his fight with Broner, which he’ll be training for next week, Pacquiao said that he will try to perform the same way he did during his last victory when he went against Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia a few months ago. In Pacquiao’s words, “If I can finish [the fight against Broner] earlier than seven rounds, why not?”
American boxer Broner is hoping to finally taste victory after losing to Mikey Garcia in July 2018 and receiving a draw against Jesse Vargas in March 2019.
