PDP-Laban names 8 ‘very possible’ bets for 2019 senatorial race

The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party named its eight “very possible” senatorial candidates for the upcoming 2019 midterm elections, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel confirmed on Saturday, September 1.

The names of these individuals were announced during the PDP-Laban leadership assembly on Friday night, August 31, in Pasay City which was attended by President Rodrigo Duterte, the party’s chairman.

Aside from himself who is seeking for reelection next year, Pimentel said the candidates for the party’s 2019 slate are as follows: Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher “Bong” Go, Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino, Davao City 1st District Representative Karlo Nograles, Makati City 1st District Representative Monsour del Rosario, Maguindanao 2nd District Representative Zajid “Dong” Mangudadatu, and Quirino Representative Dakila Carlo Cua.

Pimentel explained that the eight “very possible” personalities are those who “are all interested” to run for a seat in the upper house.

Lauding the PDP-Laban for being a “principled [political] party, ” Duterte assured members of the party of his full support as “we move forward in realizing our dream of building a stronger and more prosperous nation.”

“I trust that every member of PDP-Laban will be with me as we bring about real and lasting change for the sake of our people and our democratic institutions, and for our children, and their children to come,” he said during the assembly.

The Chief Executive also vowed to have a “clean and honest 2019 elections,” adding that the administration would not allow any intimidation and vote-buying.

Duterte then said that he will establish checkpoints nationwide and limit the number of security guards and firearms of the candidates to two.

“You must surrender your excess firearms. Do not go around in excess of about two. But we will assign every candidate ng security, pero wala talaga yang terrorism-terrorism na ‘yan (but there will be no terrorism),” the President stressed.
