China avenges early defeat to Batang Gilas to capture bronze

MANILA — China avenged its group stage loss to Batang Gilas with a 76-57 rout to claim third place in the final day of the FIBA U18 Asian Championship at the Stadium 29 in Nonthaburi, Thailand on Saturday.

China caught Batang Gilas on an off day and quickly opened a double-digit lead that the team never gave up in the end.

Wang Quanze made 27 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block for China, which deprived Batang Gilas of a podium finish.

Kai Sotto made 16 markers, eight boards, one dime, and one block for Batang Gilas, whose fourth place finish is its best since 1992.

Australia took the championship after beating New Zealand in the final, 72-63.

The four teams will be heading to next year’s FIBA U19 World Cup.
