Monsoon-affected families now at 282K
MANILA — Severe weather conditions due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclones “Henry,” “Inday” and “Josie” have so far affected 282,447 families or 1,253,697 individuals in Regions 1, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), 6, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the National Capital Region (NCR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in an update issued on Wednesday evening.
Ricardo Jalad, NDRRMC executive director, said 12,127 families or 48,830 persons are being aided and sheltered in 293 evacuation centers, while 120,286 families or 484,721 individuals are being aided outside of evacuation centers.
Also, the death toll hit nine, one injured and one missing in Regions 7, 4A, NCR and CAR.
Bad weather also affected 103 road sections and eight bridges in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 6 and CAR.
There are now 579 flooded areas in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, CAR and NCR.
The floods in 320 of these areas have already subsided.
