Julia Barretto has been getting a lot of glowing praises for her outstanding performance in her craft, but despite her success in show business, the Kapamilya actress shared that she has often been doubted and judged.

In an open letter she posted on her Instagram account on Tuesday, July 17, Julia said, “In my whole journey as an actress, more often I was doubted, I was judged, I had to deal with scrutiny from people who did not know me, who made me suffer the consequences of the mistakes I did not commit and people did not give me a chance.”

“People did not give me the chance to make some mistakes, learn and to better myself,” she added.

The I Love You, Hater actress, who grew up in a family of entertainment personalities, stressed that she always wanted to prove her doubters what she is capable of achieving and that she wanted to be more than her last name.

“Other than the fact that I love my craft, I love what I do and I feel strongly passionate about acting— I’ve always wanted to prove myself,” Julia wrote.

“I wanted my hard work to get the credit and not my last name. I wanted to make a name for myself,” she continued.

I Love You, Hater, Julia’s latest film along with her on-screen partner Joshua Garcia and the Philippines’ “Queen of All Media” Kris Aquino, has grossed P40 million just five days after it premiered in cinemas, according to Star Cinema on July 16.

Julia, in her open letter, shared that before she did the film, she faced one of the biggest challenges in her life.

As she was not able to pour her heart out as Julia herself, the 21-year-old actress said she instead used her character in the movie, Zoey, to express what she truly felt inside.

“My every heartache, the every pain I felt in my body as Julia, I used Zoey as my outlet,” she shared.

“I wanted to speak to people as Julia through Zoey and this is why I embraced Zoey. I embraced this film. I put down my walls, I let people in and see me at my most vulnerable,” she continued.

Th actress then thanked the people behind the successful film, who braved the storms, worked sleepless nights and until their bodies gave up on them to produce a high standard film.

She also extended her gratitude to her family and supporters who have been giving her a lot of positive feedback and appreciation.

“We made a movie to add positivity to people’s lives and make them feel that they’re not alone,” she said. “We are not going to allow any kind of negativity to lurk around our film.”

I Love You, Hater, directed by Giselle Andres and produced by Star Cinema, is the third big-screen project of Julia and Joshua, better known as JoshLia, following the success of Vince & Kath & James and Love You to the Stars and Back.
