The House of Representatives must not haste in amending the country’s Constitution for Charter-change deserves an intense deliberation, and shouldn’t be treated like just passing any other laws, Senate Minority Floor Leader Franklin Drilon said on Sunday.

“Amending our Charter is not like passing an ordinary legislation. It is much harder than that,” the senator said, adding that it requires “comprehensive studies and deliberations” to achieve appropriate changes in the 1987 Constitution.

He said that the country’s shift to a federal form of government will affect the people of today and the generations to come so it should not be rushed.

“Congress should not be rushed into amending the Constitution to pave the way for federalism,” Drilon said.
