If she will become President? Look, I will not resign because it will make her President, my resignation is addressed to the people so that they can choose the leader they want,” Duterte said.

The president made this remark just hours after Robredo declared her readiness to unite and head several opposition groups manifesting their strong resistance to the president’s decisions in running the country.

On why he does not want Robredo to be his successor, the chief executive said that Robredo is not fit to be the next President due to her “incompetence.

It can also be recalled that Duterte on Monday said that as the country shifts to a federal form of government, the new leader should take the seat through a general election and not through succession.

Moreover, Duterte said he is willing “to cut his term to be co-terminus with the start of the transition period.” He instructed the Consultative Committee to elect a transitional President, and they agreed.
