MANILA — In response to the call of the Department of Education (DepEd) for communities and stakeholders’ participation to Brigada Eskwela 2018, Department of Health (DOH) in Calabarzon on Monday called on parents especially those who have children vaccinated with Dengvaxia to also take part and do their share.

“We are encouraging them (parents) to also join the annual Brigada Eskwela,” DOH Calabarzon Director Eduardo Janairo said in recognition to DepEd’s call for communities and other stakeholders to take part in the activity of preparing the public schools for the return of the students to the learning institutions.

Citing the importance of cleanliness in the fight against dengue disease, Janairo said that parents can also do their share by checking the school surroundings and ensuring that any possible breeding grounds of mosquitoes are cleared of water where mosquitoes may lay their eggs.

He added that the department’s part, they will be putting up anti-mosquito screens to ensure that children are protected from dengue.

“We will also do spraying aside from putting (anti-mosquito) screens,” he said.

The DOH also has deployed surveillance officers who will visit and monitor the children in the schools and in communities.

The efforts were part of the commitment in monitoring and taking care of Dengvaxia recipients who were inoculated with dengue vaccine through dengue school-based immunization program of the DOH in 2016.

There were a total of 171,276 vaccinees in the region who received the first dose, 141,075 have taken the second dose while 82,815 completed the three doses.

Calabarzon consists of provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
