Duterte skips Barangay elections

Published

on

President Rodrigo Duterte did not cast his vote in the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections “to erase suspicions” among the candidates in his precint.

“All those running candidates are my friends,” the president told reporters on Tuesday when he visited the wake of the late former Senate president Edgardo Angara.

He added that almost all backed him during the 2016 national elections, and no one would ever believe him whether he voted for them or not.

“To erase all suspicions in the minds of people who really helped me along the way, I said ‘I won’t go, I’d rather not vote,'” Duterte said.

He was expected to vote yesterday at Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School in Davao City, where the public and media waited for him.

He, however, did not show up, but went directly to the Davao International Airport to fly to back to Manila instead.
