MANILA — A Chinese wanted for economic crimes is set to be deported back to his country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Shi Hongye, 36, will be sent back to China after he was issued a summary deportation order by the BI board of commissioners on Nov. 17 last year for being an undesirable alien.

In a statement, the BI chief said the foreigner was apprehended by fugitive search unit (FSU) operatives outside Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on April 15.

Shi will be deported as soon as the Chinese embassy issues him his travel documents.

Morente said BI agents chanced upon the foreign national during an operation to capture another Chinese fugitive, identified as Miao You Chun, who did not appear at the scene.
Miao is also on the BI’s wanted list for economic crimes in China.

On the other hand, BI intelligence officer Bobby Raquepo disclosed that Shi is an undocumented alien as the Chinese government has already cancelled his passport.

The FSU chief noted that the arrested foreigner was ordered deported as his presence here is deemed inimical to public interest.
