Freedom today is again ‘imperiled’, says Duterte
In commemoration of the country’s 76th Day of Valor, President Duterte said it is disquieting to remember today’s event at a time when its purpose, that of attaining freedom, is once again “imperiled”.
“It is thus disquieting that our commemoration of this historic occasion comes at a time when the very freedoms that the heroes of Bataan fought for are once again imperiled,” Duterte said as he recalled the immeasurable sweat, blood, and tears shed decades ago just so Filipinos could get hold of the democratic way of life they now have.
The president also took a swipe at those who never cease in disrespecting the democratic institutions.
“Forces who wish to see a weak and submissive Philippines continue in their unbridled disrespect for the institutions and laws that embody our aspirations as a people,” Duterte said.
He hopes that the spirit of the Battle of Bataan inspire Filipinos to “resist any affront to dignity and inviolable rights as a free, sovereign and independent nation.”
