VP poll recount to start April 2

Published

on

The recounting of votes, as part of the electoral protest of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos challenging the victory of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo in the 2016 elections will take place on April 2.

The recount will be conducted Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Supreme Court (SC) sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) conducted a media tour on Tuesday to areas of the tribunal converted as a venue for the recounting of ballots from Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental, the three pilot provinces Marcos claimed he was cheated.

Jose Lemuel Arenas, PET ad hoc committee member, said there are 5,418 ballot boxes from every clustered polling precinct in the three provinces.

The recount will be held at the sports gym of the SC while ballot boxes will be stored on the fourth floor of the building.

Although there has been an electoral protest in the past, this is the first time that PET has set a conduction of recount.
