Filipinos trust US, Canada, Japan, neutral on China –SWS
Social Weather Stations’ (SWS) latest survey revealed that Filipinos trust the United States (US), Canada, and Japan over 14 specific countries given.
“The survey found very good net trust ratings for the United States at +68, Canada at +55, and Japan at +54,” SWS wrote in its fourth quarter 2017 survey.
The US’ score was eight points up from its +60 in September 2017.
“It has been positive since SWS first surveyed it in December 1994, ranging from a moderate +18 in May 2005 to as high as excellent +82,” SWS said.
Canada’s rate also increased since it got a good in its September 2015 result, now jumping 14 points in the December 2017 survey. Japan’s Filipino public trust rating has been gradually increasing from the very first SWS survey in December 1994. Japan started at a neutral rating in December 1994 and started crawling upwards to a neutral net rating in June 1997.
“[It] has since then been at moderate to good levels until it rose to very good +54 in December 2017,” SWS added.
Filipinos’ public trust in neighboring countries Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, and Vietnam were at moderate with the following scores respectively: +29, +20, +19, +18, +16, and +13.
The survey’s findings named Myanmar, Cambodia, China, and Laos as those rated at neutral, scoring +8 +7, +7, and +3 respectively.
Only one country was rated as ‘poor’ with a negative score – North Korea at -19.
No country got an excellent score rated at +70 and above.
“Except for the United States and North Korea, the December 2017 net trust ratings were at least one grade higher compare to when they were last surveyed for all the countries tested in the survey,” the report read.
While North Korea got the lowest rating in this survey, in SWS’s Net Trust Ratings, it is not the lowest score.
