MANILA — Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban), which he heads as president, had fulfilled six out of nine campaign promises in a short time because of the members’ ideals and coordination.

“Nine promises – six already fulfilled – all done within one year and a half of a six-year term,” he stressed. “We did it because of teamwork. This is what we can deliver because our team is united, not by personalities, but by ideology. We are all moving in the same direction, guided by common principles,” he said during his State of the Party’s Address at The Peninsula Manila in Makati City on Tuesday.

Pimentel cited the fulfilled promises as the all-out war against drugs and corruption, lower income tax, increased pay for the military and uniformed personnel, free irrigation, free tuition, and an independent foreign policy.

He said the ruling party had built a society that provided a comfortable, fair, and safe life for all Filipinos.

Pimentel committed to fulfilling the next three challenges for the Duterte administration, which are the Bangsamoro Basic Law, ending contractualization, and federalism.

He also recalled the humble start of the country’s current largest political party in 1982 with 600 members. It had unusual fundamental principles at the time, such as belief in God and belief in the dignity of the human being.

The Senate President also thanked PDP Laban chairman President Rodrigo Duterte for providing a strong and visionary leadership, adding he is the best recruiter in their party.
