MANILA — Blackwater has complicated the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal race in a tough way after upsetting San Miguel, 106-96, at the resumption of the elimination round at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City Friday night.

The Elite slowly but surely chipped away the Beermen’s early lead and completed the giant slaying on a 34-point fourth-quarter explosion.

Mike DiGregorio led Blackwater, which snapped a four-game slide and stayed alive in the playoff race at 3-5, with 26 points, three rebounds, and five assists, while Poy Erram added 24 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, four blocks, and two steals.

Arwind Santos tallied 22 points, nine boards, two dimes, two swipes, and two rejections for SMB, which fell to a three-way tie for first place at 6-2.

The team has now lost its past three games.
