MANILA — To bring the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) closer to the public, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has scheduled two nationwide TVET enrollments with job fairs this year.

These are set on February 27-28 and August 25-26 in districts, municipalities, and provincial capitals.

TESDA earlier said among those who would benefit from technical vocational courses are high school graduates, those who are employed, underemployed and career shifters.

“We will make it very easy for anyone interested to enroll in technical vocational courses. They will see us near their homes and workplaces,” said TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong.

He also said that the agency wants to ensure a steady supply of technicians, technologists and world-class workers.

Mamondiong added that holding a job fair during this activity also aims to recruit qualified TVET graduates for construction-related jobs, and noted that there is a great demand for these in the government’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.

Employers, businessmen and industry partners were invited to join the job fairs, according to TESDA.

During the Education Summit held last December at the Manila Hotel, TESDA Deputy Director General Rosanna Urdaneta highlighted that TVET is a good investment, since TVET graduates take lesser time to get their first jobs.

She cited that based on a 2012 Asian Development Bank study, it takes approximately six months to one year for a TVET graduate to land a job, compared to three years for high school graduates and one to two years for college graduates to penetrate the job market.

Urdaneta also mentioned that in this digital age, the industry would need more highly skilled workers, thus, a technical vocational course is vital.
