MANILA— A total of PHP2.093 billion worth of national roads, bridges, flood control structures, and other infrastructure projects under the government’s ‘Build Build Build’ program were completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan Second District Engineering Office (DEO) in 2017.

District Engineer Ramiro Cruz said the people of San Jose Del Monte City and the towns of Angat, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, San Miguel, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Norzagaray, Sta. Maria, Marilao, Meycauayan, and Obando will benefit from these projects which were accomplished in the first year of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration and under the leadership of Secretary Mark Villar.

The projects involved the completion of 19.59 kilometers of national roads, 88 lineal meters of bridges, 31 flood control structures, and 105 other infrastructure projects.

“We have built roads and bridges that reduced travel time and improve road quality and safety, and constructed dikes, seawalls, river control, revetment and drainage canals that will protect lives and properties from effect of natural disasters,” Cruz said in a statement.

Under the 2017 Regular Infrastructure Program, the DEO has also finished the construction of 88 units of school buildings consisting of 755 classrooms amounting to PHP1.297 Billion under the Department of Education’s Basic Education Facilities Fund.

Likewise completed were 12.24 kilometers of farm-to-market roads worth PHP105 million under the Department of Agriculture’s budget.

The DPWH official noted that among the priority projects last year was the rehabilitation and improvement of the 41-kilometer Eastern Bulacan Road that interconnects the municipalities of Dona Remedios Trinidad, San Rafael, San Ildefonso and San Miguel.

At the same time, Cruz expressed confidence that this road network will make the province of Bulacan the next investment and tourism destination in connection with the President’s vision to open up the countryside to development.

The strategic location of Bulacan opens up the province as an expansion area for industries while its rapid urbanization is attracting investment and economic activities.

It is accessible to Metro Manila and bounded by the provinces of Aurora and Quezon on the east, Nueva Ecija on the north, Pampanga on the west, and Rizal on the southeast.
