Alberta to review program that helps people with developmental disabilities
EDMONTON — Alberta has launched a review of a program that helps people with developmental disabilities.
The government says it wants to improve the system and will seek input from people receiving assistance, their families and staff.
The Persons with Developmental Disabilities program includes services that help people live at home, get job training and take part in community activities.
Bruce Uditsky, CEO of Inclusion Alberta, says he welcomes the review, adding the government needs to ensure the program helps disabled people lead meaningful and inclusive lives.
The Community and Social Services department did not release the terms of the review, when it will be complete or whether it will make the findings public.
In its last budget the province earmarked $1.1 billion for programs that support persons with disabilities, including people with developmental disabilities, family support for children with disabilities and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder initiatives.
