Beauty queen champions education, sustainable tourism
MANILA — Miss Philippines America and Ambassador of Tourism for the Philippines Excelsa de Jesus wants more support for education and sustainable tourism.
“It is of utmost importance to realize that a nation is only as strong as its people. In order to build a stronger nation, we must first help its people to get the education and opportunities they deserve,” she said.
The ambassador, who is also the representative of the Filipino Social Club of New York, personally delivers monetary aid to the Bantay Bata Foundation, which aims to protect, nurture, and educate the community on how to properly raise children.
She also encourages other Filipinos to return to the country, not only to travel for leisure purposes, but to serve the community.
De Jesus is allowed to compete for the Miss Republic of the Philippines, following her win as Miss Philippines America.
If she wins the Miss Republic of the Philippines America, De Jesus plans to help those below the poverty level by giving them basic necessities, such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical attention.
She also aims to work with local communities, investors, and stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism in the Philippines.
“If I am crowned the next Miss RP, I will be working with local communities, relevant stakeholders and investors, as well as the sectors of the government to address our responsibilities for creating sustainable tourism in the Philippines,” De Jesus said.
