MANILA — As the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) seeks to expand its language research pool, the agency will accept applications from college graduates interested to work as contractual language researchers until Jan. 31, 2018.

Successful applicants will work on several projects of KWF’s Sangay ng Salita at Gramatika (SSG).

“Applicants not chosen for those projects still have the opportunity to be hired later as language researchers of KWF’s other divisions,” said SSG head Dr. Sheilee Vega.

KWF continues to expand its pool of language researchers to better carry out projects aimed at further promoting Filipino, the country’s national language, and other Philippine languages.

“Parties KWF hired on contractual basis can eventually become permanent employees of this agency,” said SSG language researcher Jeslie del Ayre.

She said such was possible if the contractual workers qualify for permanent positions at KWF and if vacancies in the agency arise.

Vega said KWF already commenced interviewing applicants for the contractual language researcher positions.

She said applicants to be hired would be stationed at KWF’s office in Metro Manila but would travel to designated research areas when required.

Vega said parties still interested in applying must be graduates of four-year courses related to language and culture.

“Among those courses are Philippine studies and anthropology since part of the task involves fieldwork,” she added.

KWF has set research experience as top requirement, as well as ability to communicate verbally and in writing, to travel alone around the country and to live in indigenous communities they will study.

One of KWF’s biggest research undertakings this year include the Lingguwistikong Etnograpiya ng mga Wika ng Filipinas, which seeks to document languages and cultures in the Philippines.

SSG also has projects on Filipino grammar, environment and safety terms, language loss, orthography for Philippine languages and teaching of Filipino. (PNA)
