New York Times lists Saskatoon among top travel destinations for 2018
The New York Times has published an interactive feature listing the top 52 places in the world to visit in 2018, and the lone Canadian destination to make the list is Saskatoon.
The feature selected the Saskatchewan city primarily because of the new Remai Modern Museum and its 8,000-work collection.
“Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and other heavyweight 20th-century artists now have a home in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, thanks to the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan,” reads the article.
It calls the museum “a centerpiece of Saskatoon’s redeveloping riverfront” sporting world-class modernist architecture.
The article adds that art fans flying to the city will arrive at the “recently expanded and refurbished (and award-winning) airport and can soon stay in style near the museum at the 15-story Alt Hotel.
”
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark trumpeted the article on his Twitter feed, writing “Welcome World! Come for the art, stay for the people.”
The article’s top five places to visit in 2018 are New Orleans; Colombia; Basilicata, Italy; the Caribbean; and Vierwaldstattersee, Switzerland.
