Lawmakers cry foul, call CHR ‘biased’

The performance of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in investigating the alleged human rights abuses during the term of former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is being criticized by some lawmakers, leading to their conclusion that the CHR is biased against the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to them, CHR appears to be evidently silent on the human rights abuses committed by criminals and terrorist but is very active in condemning the Duterte administration’s alleged human rights violations.

Kabayan Partylist Rep. Harry Roque pointed out that the chairman of CHR, Jose Luis Gascon is card-bearing member of the Liberal Party and its former director-general which could have influenced their alleged lack of response to the abuses reportedly committed during the Aquino administration where the Zamboanga siege, Maguindanao massacre, Mamasapano carnage, Marawi attack, beheading of soldiers, and even kidnapping had happened.
