2 Mindanaoan pugs vie for Interim OPBF light flyweight title

DAVAO CITY — Ivan Soriano of General Santos City and Jaysever Abcede of Valencia City will be fighting against each other for the interim Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) light flyweight title on December 16 at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena in Makati City.

Soriano (16W-1L-1D, 8 KOs), a former interim Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight champion has won five straight wins including two early this year.

The 29-year-old Soriano previously stopped Bimbo Nacionales last June 27 in Makati City.

He also earlier pummeled to submission Jeronil Borres by a 3rd round technical knockout last May 12 in Davao City.

Abcede (15W-7L-0D,10 KOs), on the other hand, stopped Jhon Rey de Asis by a 3rd round TKO last September 28 at the Esperanza Municipal grounds in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.

Meanwhile, former WBC International bantamweight champion Ernesto Saulong (21W-2L-1D, 8KOs) of Mindoro Occidental and Rena Portes (10W-5L-0D) are fighting for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific bantamweight title in the same card.

Saulong won his last three fights including a unanimous decision over Michael Escobia last June 24 in Santa Rosa City. Portes won his last fight via a 4th round TKO against Sherwin McDo Lungay last November 1 in Iligan City.
