BUTUAN CITY— The Department of Health in Caraga Region (DOH-Caraga) will spearhead a forum on firecrackers and pyrotechnics injury on Monday.

DOH-Caraga spokesperson Romylyn Torralba said the forum will tackle the safety issues and existing guidelines on the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, which are commonly used during Yuletide and New Year’s celebration.

Torralba said the forum will take place at Almont Inland Hotel Monday morning, in partnership with the police, Bureau of Fire Prevention, and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Caraga recorded a total of 13 cases of injuries involving the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, Torralba said.

Three of the victims were from Agusan del Norte, five from Agusan del Sur and three from Surigao del Norte. No cases were reported from Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.

There were also no reported cases of “stray bullets” last year, and the DOH hopes to maintain that record.

Torralba said the DOH will retain its advocacy for a common area for fireworks display center in every barangay or municipality.
