LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte police has intensified its security measures to ensure a peaceful conduct of the upcoming Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Forum on Urban Resilience to Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Strategies in the province next week.

ASEAN delegates will be in the province on Dec. 4-8 to talk about climate change and how members of the regional bloc could help each other mitigate its impact in their respective communities.

Around 150 delegates are expected to attend the summit to be held at the Plaza Del Norte Hotel and Convention Center.

Checkpoints and police visibility along the national highway are already in place while joint security teams from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police are on full alert status, said Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Director, Sr. Supt. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Saturday.

Provincial Tourism Officer Aianree Raquel said concerned government agencies met at the Plaza Del Norte for security and safety briefing.

The delegates are scheduled to arrive here starting Sunday. (PNA)
