New Papal Nuncio arrives in PH
MANILA — Catholic church, government and embassy officials welcomed Archbishop , the new Apostolic Nuncio to the country.
According to Caloocan Bishop Pablo David, the new Vatican Representative to the Philippines arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA 3) in Pasay City Friday afternoon.
“Archbishop Caccia arrived today in Manila at 1 p.m. at the NAIA 3,” he said in his post on his Facebook account Pablo Virgilio David.
“Welcome to the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, a native of Milan, Italy,” the Catholic prelate added.
The Vatican official was greeted by several bishops and some officials of the government and the embassy of Argentina at the airport.
“Present with us to welcome the new Nuncio at the VIP Lounge of NAIA 3 were Lolo Cardinal Dency Rosales (Manila Archbishop Emeritus Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales), Davao Archbishop Muloy (Romulo) Valles, Palo Archbishop John Du, Lipa Bishop Gilbert Garcera, Imus Bishop Rey Evangelista, Antipolo Bishop Francis De Leon, Paranaque Bishop Jesse Mercado, the CBCP General Secretariat, the Staff of the Nunciature, Former Ambassador to the Holy See Leonida Vera, Argentinian Ambassador to the Philippines, Roberto Bosch,” David added.
Last September, Pope Francis appointed the 59-year-old archbishop as the Papal Nuncio to the Philippines.
Caccia succeeded to the post fellow Italian Archbishop, Giuseppe Pinto, who was transferred to Croatia in July this year.
He was born on February 24, 1958, and ordained as a priest on June 11, 1983.
