(PCOO Photo)Malacañang on Tuesday expressed regret over the rejection of Paulyn Ubial as the secretary of the Department of Health (DOH).
The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) has moved to reject the ad interim appointment of Ubial.
“We regret the Commission on Appointments’ non-confirmation of Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.
“We are deeply grateful for Sec. Ubial’s service to the Health Department and for epitomizing the President’s malasakit [compassion] through her “All for Health, towards Health for All” Philippine Health Agenda,” Abella added. “We wish Secretary Ubial well in all her future endeavors.
”
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel said “the motion to disapprove the ad interim appointed of Miss Paulyn Jean Ubial has been approved.”
The judgment on Ubial came after the CA committee on health carried out a session and endorsed to dismiss the secretary’s appointment.
Senator Gregorio Honasan II, health committee chair of CA, said before the panel that after three hearings, the plenary reached a “difficult decision” to “withhold its consent to the ad interim appointment” of Ubial.
Honasan said 13 members voted against Ubial’s confirmation with CA affirming the recommendation.
Ubial is the fifth Cabinet member appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to be rejected by the powerful commission.
Others are Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano, Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, Environment Secretary Gina Lopez, and Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr.
