PSEi finishes with gains; peso down vs. USD

MANILA— The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) finished the week with gains unlike the peso, which pulled back against the dollar ahead of the  September 2017 jobs report from the US later in the day.

PSEi gained 0.20 percent, or 16.87 points, to 8,310.88 points a day after it contracted anew. This week, the main index was on see-saw.

The broader All Shares tracked the main index after it rose 0.10 percent, or 4.79 points, to 4,889.44 points.

It was a mix for the sectors with Mining and Oil and Holding Firms up by 2.62 percent and 0.99 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, Property fell 0.72 percent followed by Industrial, 0.51 percent; Financial, 0.24 percent; and Services, 0.16 percent.

Volume reached 1.21 billion shares amounting to PHP7.37 billion.

Gainers led losers at 99 to 96 while 49 shares were unchanged.

On the other hand, the local currency ended the week at 51.15 from 51.01 a day ago.

It opened the day at 51.10 from 51.07 a day ago.

It traded between 51.17 and 51.07, bringing the day’s average to 51.118.

Volume reached USD498.8 million, down from the USD794.7 million Thursday.
