LPA off Tuguegarao may become tropical storm: PAGASA
MANILA — The low pressure area last spotted 555 km east northeast of Tuguegarao City may become a tropical storm, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday morning.
Weather forecaster Benison Estareja said there is now a chance that the LPA may become a tropical storm, and it will be named “Kiko” if it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In PAGASA’s 24-hour forecast, it said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and possible occasional heavy rains, gusty winds and lightning may prevail over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Aurora.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies except, isolated light to occasionally heavy rains, gusty winds and lightning, it added.
Moderate to strong winds will prevail over extreme northern Luzon, and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Light to moderate winds will blow from northeast to northwest over Visayas and the rest of Luzon, and from the southwest over Mindanao with slight to moderate seas.
Meanwhile, PAGASA is still monitoring severe tropical storm “Sanvu”, which was last eyed at 2,550 km east northeast of extreme northern Luzon (outside PAR). (PNA)
