DepEd condemns killing of student in Caloocan
MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Sunday strongly condemned the shooting of Kian Delos Santos, a Grade 11 student who was killed in an anti-drugs operation in Caloocan City last August 16.
In a statement, DepEd said it denounces all forms of violence against students, teachers and personnel.
The agency also echoed the call for investigation of the incident.
A gun and two sachets of shabu were allegedly recovered from the 17-year-old Delos Santos.
“While we acknowledge that law enforcement is an important aspect in the government’s comprehensive efforts to battle illegal drugs, ensuring accuracy of information and upholding the rule of law should not be compromised,” DepEd stressed.
The department added that it supports President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to uphold the rule of law, and put in jail those who would be found responsible for Delos Santos’ death.
