Ilocos town declared under state of calamity
LAOAG CITY, July 31— Fishers in the coastal village of Davila, Pasuquin were caught off guard on Sunday as a storm surge smashed more than a hundred fishing boats worth more than PHP50,000 each. It also damaged about 17 houses made of lightweight materials.
As this developed, town councilors immediately convened an emergency session on late Sunday afternoon, declaring Pasuquin under a state of calamity.
Town Mayor Ferdinand Aguinaldo, in a radio interview, said about six percent of the town’s coastal villages were affected by the storm surge brought about by the howling winds of tropical storm “Huaning” as typhoon “Gorio” exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of this posting, some of the affected families are back to their homes while the others still trying to figure out how to recover from their losses.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council had immediately distributed relief goods to the victims.(PNA)
