Rep. Imelda Marcos dispels death rumor, says she’s alive
MANILA–Former first lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos on Monday doused rumors of her brief death over the internet.
The 87-year old Marcos was present during Monday’s session at the plenary hall of the House of Representatives, thus dispelling the hoax about her supposed demise.
“Buhay pa, matanda nga lang, (Still alive, but just old)” Marcos told reporters in a chance interview.
“Thank you, pinatotohanan niyo katotohanan na ako ay buhay pa, (Thank you (for) affirming the truth that I am still alive),” she added as she expressed gratitude to the media for clarifying reports.
Rumor of Marcos’ death circulated following a post on Twitter by Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla, who expressed her condolences over the death of the incumbent congresswoman.
Mercado-Revilla deleted her post and then issued an apology on her Twitter account for the erroneous tweet.
Both tweets had been taken down since.
