MANILA–Baser Amer continues on building a strong case for the Most Improved Player award.

Amer led Meralco back to a PBA conference quarterfinals after missing out on its Philippine Cup campaign, draining 20 points in an 81-66 rout of Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Amer, who was named the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week on Monday, boosted his point average in the Commissioner’s Cup to 16.5 points a game along with 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

He prevailed over a guard-loaded shortlist that includes teammate Chris Newsome, Star’s Paul Lee, Mahindra’s Reden Celda, Ginebra’s Scottie Thompson, Blackwater’s Mike DiGregorio, and Phoenix’s RJ Jazul. TNT’s Kelly Williams is the only frontline player considered for the weekly citation.
