MANILA–The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has ordered the deployment of 227 personnel to facilitate the arrival of delegates for the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit this week.

BI Spokesperson Antonette Mangrobang explained that the figure came from the 360 employees that have been deployed by BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.

“The Commissioner ordered the deployment of 360 personnel of which 227 would be on duty at any given time to facilitiate the arrivals of the delegates,” she said in an interview.

The BI official revealed that close to 2,000 foreign delegates from ASEAN-member countries will be attending the meeting from Wednesday to Saturday.

“What we would have on the 26th to 29 is the 30th ASEAN summit leaders will bring approximately 1,900 delegates,” she said.

Mangrobang added, “We have assigned immigration officers to process ASEAN delegates. And we want to make sure that those listed as delegates also do not have derogatory records in our country.”

She noted that as long as the visitors have no derogatory records they will be allowed entry.

“Basta wala sila derogatory records sa system ng Philippine Immigration of course they would be allowed entry,” the BI official added.

The four-day event will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
